SUPER C idle too rich

My super C has a problem that I can't work out. It runs rich and fouls plugs at low to mid range rpm. I use it to mow with and it has plenty of power and runs smooth with new plugs at full throttle while mowing, so I don't believe it is in the ignition. Which is still 6v, every thing is new except the coil. letting it idle for more than 5 minutes will foul a set of plugs. the carb is a zenieth, not sure which model. but it only has an idle adjustment. Initially the adjustment made very liitle difference wether it is tight or loose. I assuned the port was plugged so I rebuilt the carb and cleaned the ports and checked the float level and still the same thing. Next I lowered the float level alomst an 1/8 still the same. Next I ran a .02 larger drill bit through the idle jet wich seemed to make a difference in the screw adjustment, but it still fouls plugs. While it running i can pull the idle screw out and it will make very little difference on how the tractor runs although you can here it sucking air. I've had the tractor around a year and it's been doing the same since i bought it. I don't know the history behind the carb on the tractor. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP.
WHEN I PUT THE NEW POINTS IN I SET THE GAP AT THE HIGHEST POINT ON THE DISTRIBUTOR SHAFT NOT AT TDC. SO I SET THEM AT TDC THIS MORNING, BUT I HAVE ABOUT 20 DEGREES OF PLAY IN THE SHAFT. AFTER SETTING THE POINTS THE TRACTOR RAN SMOOTHER AT IDLE AND THE SPARK WILL JUMP 3/8" TO 1/2" GAP. I STILL HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLACK SMOKE AT IDLE, BUT I'LL RUN IT A WHILE AND SEE HOW THE PLUGS LAST. SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT THE PLAY IN THE DIST SHAFT. ALSO HOW DO I SET THE CORRECT TIMING WITH THE DIST. Thanks Jack

The play on the shaft should not be a big problem as long as the gears don't jump timing. For setting the timing I always set it by where the tractor runs best. My 230 I hooked my disk behind it pulled them until it got warm then turn the dist. back and forth to see where the tractor could pull the disk best. It is a lot of hopping on and off the tractor but worth the time. One other thing I have found out every farmall I have ever had the slotted plug just in front of the dist. never had any oil in it, and that might be why you have play on the dist shaft. I always fill that housing with SAE90 or STP. I hope this might help.

I have a Farmall 230 that had the same problem. I ended up putting copper core spark plug wires and putting hotter heat range spark plugs D-14 champions not the D-21 it called for. The hotter plugs burned the gas better and haven't foulout. Copper core plug wires carry a lot more current than the automotive type plug wires and are worth the getting if you can find them. Matt

Check your ignition system. Sometimes a weak spark will mimic a fuel problem. The coil should be able to produce a 1/4" bright blue spark.
Check the point gap (.020") and set the points to open at TDC.
