Bought an aftermarket Farmall emplem for the radiator hood. The hood has two holes almost in the center for what I assume is the mounting bolts. The aftermarket emblem has the holes on the very ends.

How was the original mounted to the hood? Bolts in the middle or the end? I had rather not drill holes in the hood becuase I want it to be like the original.

I agree with Don. If your nose has two emblem screw holes close together the nose came off a Super M, it's not the original M nose.

I'd drill the new holes in the super M nose on your farmall M tractor and put on the emblem and call it good.

If you want it to be original you'd need to get a farmall M nose to replace you farmall super M nose.

And where did you get the emblem??? I need one also!

later,
scruffy

Thanks. This was the hood that has been on the tractor since my childhood. Guess it will stay but do not know how it ended up on an M. I will retrofit the emblem to fit.

Are you SURE it is an M? Look at the serial number tag. Serial prefix for an M is FBK, for a Super M, SM. If it is a Super M, C-264 will be cast into the right side of the block, M engines will have no notation, except for the prefix FBKM STAMPED on the pad on the block under the number one spark plug. I just think it is strange that it has a SM grille, if you are familiar with the tractor.

Charles, It depends on which tractor you have. Example, my 42 Farmall A has the wide chrome emblem, my 49 Super A has the small square IH emblem mounted in the center. Which tractor, and maybe someone else can help you out!

Sorry, this a Farmall M. Would guess the emblem to be about 8-10" in length.

I just want this thing to be correct in any way I can control. Wish I could find an old emblem and clean it up. Thanks for your help.

It sounds like the grille you have is from a super, which used a small IH emblem. The grilles do interchange, just fill the holes you don't need and drill new holes where you do need them.

Just a tip here. Put locktite on the screws or bolts you fasten the emblem on with. They sure do go missing a lot of times.

How were the origional emblems finished? I have a 41 H with what appears to be the origional emblem on the grill. It's in good condition except for at least two coats of red paint. It's a sharper stamping and the letters are better than the aftermarket one I bought to replace it with. Its made out of tin instead of aluminum like the aftermarket emblems. I would like to see an origional in good condition to find out how they were finished. (Polished, or painted ? )
