I am looking at an IH 300 utility with 39HP and wondering how wide of a disc will it handle? We are doing food plots for deer and garden work. However our garden is not that large. Can anybody make a suggestion? Terry

if your looking to buy a 300u ..just look and keep going ..ask any owner about the wonderful steering set up and fuel econemy ..had one it used 2 to 3 GALLONS of gas to back blade my driveway in the winter my driveway is only about 100 feet long ..if you already own one ,Im sorry to hear that, I would use either a 6 foot disk no larger than 8. Terry: I wouldn't look at anything over 8 feet or 28 blades. Back when 300s were new I pulled a 28 blade Cockshutt-Oliver disk, and in the right conditions that disk could make a 300 work. Now Cockshutt-Oliver disks had a reputation of pulling harder than most disks, mainly because they cut better than most. I would go with Paul's suggestion and 24 or 28 blade disk.

All kinds of guys will tell you they are pulling 10 foot disks with this size tractor. Not a good cutting disk, not on your life. Most are pulling worn out disks, many of them not much more effective than a land roller.

Terry, An 8" disk should work fine, especially if you have a 3 point hitch set-up on your tractor. The tractor will handle it, and you can still maneuver it in confined areas not to mention transporting. A 7" will also work, but if you have your wheels set at 60" or wider, you may be hard pressed to cover your tracks.

Terry, a 10' will work nice for both. An 8' is much handier but in my area good ones bring 500, real nice ones 1000. 10'can be had for under 100.
