I found a great paint shop nearbye finally, and I went to price the correct Dupont paint 7410 Dulux. Apparently Dupont doesn't sell Dulux paint anymore, however the paint code number is still the same (7410). They quoted me about $200 for a gallon of this paint. Does this sound right to you guys? This doesn't include the activator or hardner either. What do you think I should do, try to buy the real Case 2150 paint somewhere, or does the Case paint cost the same? Thanks.

Tanner,

Can you tell, oh here we love to hear ourselves talk. We just had this discussion a few days ago with you and well, here we are again.

Red will always be more expensive.

Buy the IH paint if the money is a big deal. You can repaint it any time. After all, you are painting it this time. Paint it again in 5 years, if you still have it. It will probably be ready for other things done to it by then as well. Then you always have a NEW tractor.

Tanner, i had my man shoot this H with 2150 and it turned out great. If a paint man knows what he's doing it will have a real nice shine with no hardner needed. And believe it or not he says the best thing you can do for it is leave it out in a gentle rain.

Dupont Dulux Synthetic Enamel and Lucite acrylic lacquer were both discontinued a number of years ago. They still make black Dulux though.
The $200 paint would have been Dupont CENTARI acrylic enamel. If they sell Dupont, they should also sell Dupont's economy NASON line.NASON Fulcryl and FulThane are both very inexpensive and not bad stuff at all.Ask for FulThane (urethane)and their universal thinner and FulThane activator.

The IH 2150 gives excellent results and will always be the correct shade of red. Any of the Dupont paint jobs I have seen always appeared to be either pink or orange. I don't understand why you would pay 3 to 4 times the price just to end up with the wrong color.

7410 is the IH 50 (used until mid-1949 or so) color, 96766 is the IH 2150 equivalent. Actually 2150 did not come out until 1961, replacing IH 201, don't know if that can be mixed. So the current IH 2150 is not really "correct". But, to each his own.

The last IH2150 paint I got from local CaseNH dealer was manufactured by Valspar and cost about $44.00 per gallon. That was over two years ago and my Super C looks almost as good today as it did then. And I didn"t use hardener.

Hardener does not stop fading. It does give more gloss, meaning that the tractor should look better longer than if no hardener was used. However, the initial appearance of a newly painted tractor depends more on the skill of the painter than the type of paint used. Even synthetic enamel will look good for a long time if the tractor is kept inside and and waxed occasionally.

Unfortunately, red pigment is amoung the most expensive. I don't remember exactly what I paid for IH 2150 at the dealer, but I believe it was around $28.00 a gallon.

Well shoot, for $28 a gallon, I should have you buy it for me and ship it, and I will pay you for it.

Yes, I have painted many red items in my day, and red is always the most expensive.

If you are going for just show, then the price shouldn't bother you, but there are more economical brands out there. The PPG Omni line is urathane and is moderately priced, and the two stage system produced exellent results. I painted two tractors with this system and I was very pleased with the results. I'm sure other guys will concur on the PPG Omni line. I can send pics of my two jobs. email at david_theisen@mornorth.com and I'll send pics

I have used the IH red from IH, weathered and turned pink. Neighbor uses cheap enamel from the local farm & home supply with their brand of hardner, has had great results and so far so good on lasting.

The "new" 2150 is an acrylic modified enamel, that is it is the old CIH synthetic enamel with UV inhibitors added, thus it should not fade as rapidly, meaning it is good enough. But it still cannot be expected to compete with acrylic urethane from PPG, DuPont, etc.

I am going to have to repaint my pink M, If the CIH paint is better, that is what I will try this time. Thank you for the info, used to sell PPG paint back in the 80's, all this new stuff is out of my league.

You might go to PPG's website and look up the acrylic modified paint they sell. I haven't used it, all I know is what I have read. Reading between the lines, it may be almost as good as Omni acrylic enamel, but not as good as Omni acrylic urethane. Don't know if there is any quality difference between PPG's version and Case-IH's version either. A lot of people on this forum swear by CIH 2150. I have read several posts from people who have used CIH 2150, changed to acrylic urethane, and said they would never use 2150 again. But, I have never read a post that said they used acrylic urethane and went back to 2150, unless they were painting for someone else and the customer wanted to save money.
