I need some help. Trying to find a distributor cap and rotor for my 49 Farmall. It's been converted to a 12 volt. Would I have to get a new distributor as well? Also what would it take to convert it back to a 6 volt other than a generator, new distributor, and a new wire harness?

You didn't say what model Farmall you have, but
Borg Warner cap covers a lot of Farmalls and their cap number is HC2 and rotor is HR2, condenser HG5. Hal

Hal, it's an "H" model.

Those part numbers should be good for your H. Here's a toll free number for Borg Warner 1-800-566-8334. They should be able to give you a dealer in your area that carries their parts.
If not, your local auto parts store should be able to cross-reference these numbers I gave you.

Saturday, Tractor Supply Company had the distributor parts on the shelf (pegboard) Caps, rotors, tune up kits, etc. No reason to change the distributor.

Pappy, never realized that Tractor Supply carried parts for old Farmall's. Thanks for the info. I should have guessed with a name like Tractor Supply.

The distributor cap and rotor are avalable at any Case-IH dealer, or any quality auto parts store. If your distributor is a DELCO, (stands up instead of laying down), then you should ask for a cap and rotor for an Allis Chalmers or a Case. The fact that your tractor is 12 volt, or 6 volt, has very little to do with the distributor, only the ignition coil, and the 6 volt coil works with 12 volts by using a ballast resistor, which I am sure your tractor already has. Not much point in changing back to 6 volts unless you just want originality.

Tried going to the local Case dealer, but he couldn't help. However I will try the auto parts dealer. Never realized that about the coil though. Never gave it any thought. So, what happens to the coil if you put a 6 volt coil to a 12 volt system that probably doesn't have a ballast?

You will probably fry the coil. Hal

Hal, I picked up a new 12 volt coil today still didn't get the tractor started. I removed the distributor cap and the cover plate to the points. Turned it over several times while watching for a spark, none. Picking up a new condensor tomorrow hoping that will do the trick.

You need to check for battery voltage at your ignition switch. It is fed from one of the terminals on the starter solenoid. If you have
voltage to the switch, check the wire on the output side to your coil. If no voltage to your
coil your switch or wire is the problem. Could be a broken wire or a defective switch or corrosion. Hal
