I have a model 31 loader that is currently on my M. It has a blade on it for snow removel and it does a great job. I would like to put it on my 400 so that I can take advantage of the live hydraulics. Does anyone know if the loader will fit on a 400? I have measured the wheelbase of both tractors and if I am right, the 400 is about 4" longer. Has anyone ever tried this? Just thought I'd ask before I spend half a day and find that it won't work. Thanks for any help.

WE have had a loader on our SMTA for over 40 years & made oak blocks to put between the loader frame & axle housings. Use a table saw to make the "tongue & groove" on the front & back of the blocks. WE made longer bolts from readi-bolt material. All other bolts fit perfectly on the front end mounting brackets.

Troy: My dad moved a model 31 loader from an H to a 300 and yes the difference was 4". They fabricated a 4" spacer to go between loader frame and tractor axle housings. Also took a bit of fabrication to mount that standard out front of grill for the guide pipes to slide through. That was the only changes needed.

Yes, it will work, but you will have to fabricate a 4 inch spacer to fit between the axle on the 400 and the loader mount. That spacer is an IH item but I don't know the part number. Years ago when my dad traded his M for a brand new 350 the dealer came up with the spacers so the #31 loader could be used on the longer 350.
