Crhistmas Eve greetings

I went to do some business and I seen a boy in town

He looked so small and lonesome and there weren't no other kids around

And I wondered at his clothing, and I wondered at his hair,

And I wondered if he had a Mom and Dad at all to care

Would he go home this evening to supper that is hot,

Fried chicken in the skillet and potatoes in the pot

Will they sit around the table and give thanks to God above

Will he know the peace and comfort that comes from a home of love

Are there clean sheets on his single bed and fresh towels by the door

Will there be cookies in the jar when he gets home at four

Or is the TV blaring and not a soul around

While Mom is at the Social Club till all her sorrows drown

Is Father gone but not forgot by those who bear the shame

Does Mom sit home with bitter tears and a heart that casts the blame

Will he dine on cold spaghetti left or will he eat at all

Before he slips in solitude to his bedroom down the hall

Will he curl up in his unmade bed and cry himself to sleep

(the world is full of sorrows and it comforts one to weep)

Will he go to school tomorrow still dressed in clothes of yesterday

Will the other children laugh at him when they go outside to play

It hurts to be an outcast, it hurts to be alone

But he will find a friend alright, some one to call his own

His friend might be a little pill that makes him feel just fine

Or maybe he will take the path of cigarettes and wine

The path that leads to Sheol, where all of sorrows start

True liquor is a friend for life till mind and soul do part

Or will he find a friend like you or I to take his hand

To lead him down the stalwart path to learn to be a man

To tell him of the sacred Hope, God has for you and I

How Jesus came to give his life that we might never die

To show him of a better way by helping him along

To be a friend that makes him feel he really does belong

Some one to share his sorrows with, to share his hope and dreams

Some one to show an interest in his plans and little schemes

Some one to be there for him when he feels so all alone

Some one to send a Birthday card or call him on the phone

Some one to turn his life around before his chances end

To bring a lost sheep to the fold, Will You Be That Friend?
