altenator for Super H 12volt conversion

I just rebiult a 52 Super H, the old 6volt system is in rough shape so Im going to convert to 12volt. Could someone let me know if there is a specific altenator that matches more closley than another? Thanks for any help.

I used the rebuilt alternator Delco 10s from napa costing $35.00. It works great and fits nicely.

Greg, I used the Hitachi 14231 alternator on my 1951 H with no problems. I used Bob Melville's wiring diagrams and the two terminals were labeled as "S" and "L" instead of "1" and "2" in his diagrams. The "L" was same as "1" and "S" was same as "2" in Bob's diagrams. The Hitachi 14231 is an inch smaller in diameter then the Delco. I found you need all the space you can get. The alternators were used on Nissan 1978 through 1980 on 620 and 720 pickup trucks with a 2 liter engine. A new rebuilt was $50 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. The NAPA part no. is 238130. If the Super H has the same space under there as an "H", a regular Delco will fit and may charge at lower RPMs I"ve heard. I put a Delco on an "H" and it worked fine.

There are several that you can use.
1. Hitachi 14231
2. mitsubishi A1T 23377, this is the one pictured on my Cub.HTH

I forgot to mention this particular alternator(Had it bench tested) will also function as 1 wire without the high RPM's to get it to excite, but as you see I have both wires hooked up since I already had made up my wiring harness for hooking up both wires...

I used a Nippondenso from and early 80s Toyota Tercel on our super H. I built my own mounting bracket and used Bob Ms diagrams for reference. It fits under the hood (barely) and works fine.

alternator--ballast resistor and switch the poles at the ampmeter.

Hitachi and Nippon-Denso from Honda Civic and Nissans are smaller diameter than Delco S10 but wired about the same- will fit under H hood without cutting hood metal for clearance. Salvage yard asks about $20.00, rebuiders get about $50.00 to 75.00, new is $250?. Motorola had a slightly smaller than Delco model, can't remember exact number, was used on some AMCs and Jeeps, was about 30amp- had to replace with 55amp Delcos when putting on electrolift snowplows on CJ5s, delco kit had brackets longer for the bigger alternator. Have seen Motorolas on some later JD equipment with requlator mounted on caseing- would interfere with hood on H? Lucas on some English cars also smaller diameter- not very many around cheap though. Check foreign/Japanese car section at salvage yard, bring tape measure. RN
