Cub - Govenor/Distributor

My Cub has been lacking power for quite a while now. It starts easy, but after it warms up and you try to work it a bit, it sputters and dies. When it does this I can fiddle with the point gap and away we go again. The troubleshooting section of the book I have points me a faulty or worn distributor. I can agree with that, thinking that my point gap is moving all around and causing me to loose power. My question is how come I can not find any distributor rebuild kits from any of the major aftermarket suppliers? Also my book does not have a section that describes how to rebuild the distributor. It only describes how to remove it as a unit. Surely my Cub is not the only one in history to wear out a distributor??? Another question I have is that my book does not even mention the drive unit that the distributor goes into. When I took this apart it was packed with grease. Anybody have any idea on how to reassamble this? I will clean out all the old grease and start over again. Should the housing be packed with grease to start with, or should I remove the threaded plug on the side of the housing and add a pump of grease every now and then??? Since I am this far into the project already, I thought well why not check out the govenor while I am here. I got it apart okay and it was pretty sludged up on the inside. I figure a good cleaning could not hurt anything. My book talks about clearances between the weights and pins. Mine have a bit of wiggle to them, I would guess way more than the allowable clearance of .004. Also there is a whole lot of slop where the shaft goes through the carrier. What gets me is it seemed to work okay the way it was. I did not seem to have a lot of errotic throttle movement. My book advises that if everything is loose and wiggly that it may be best to just replace the govenor assembly. Same question as above, why am I not seeing complete govenor assemblies or related parts offered from the aftermarket suppliers? Has any one else rebuilt a govenor/distributor? Please share your experiences..... .
