I have a question regarding my very late production A. Below the magneto on this tractor is a small cover plate that looks to be the exact size and shape to accommodate the auxiliary hydraulic pump used on the Super A and Super C. From the Serial #, this was one of the A's manufactured in Louisville around FAA 219,245 which makes it one of the last 2000 or so to come off the line. They also started making Super A's in late 47, so does anyone think they used some Super A parts on this and I could put Super A Hydraulics on it. It's a very clean and well maintained machine. K

Sounds like a Super A block. I have heard that some of the last As had Super A blocks, but haven't seen it or heard a first hand report. There is a lot more difference between the two models than just the block. It would be easier to list the parts that were the same than the ones that changed.

What is the engine number stamped into the block (right at the top edge of the block, below #1 spark plug)?

kazenza: One item Jim and gene have not told you, is for factory SA hydraulics the top of the torque tube is flat between battery and bell housing, whereas the A torque tube is round on top. You didn't indicate that item one way or the other. Since you have the hole in block for mounting pump, might you also have a flat top torque tube? If you have both, it's just a matter of adding a Super A hydraulic system.

Find a pump and see if it works, There is nothing lost if you get it with the right to return it if it won't fit. (I think it will) You will need to assemble the resevoir and valving to complete the system. including some fabrication of parts. But that is the fun!

Yes that happened and you can add a pump there but you dont have the mount for the rockshaft assy under the gas tank. You can get the pieces from a junk SA. There would be lots of stuff for you to change. Just go and look at a SA and you will see what the parts you wuold need.

Gene is correct, assuming you want to use super A equip. If you want to run remotes or other things like a class 1 three point you can do without the rockshaft stuff.
