We have a 1941 M Farmall. It was not running properly so I looked at the magneto rotor and cleaned the contacts, however, it seems that the rotor is very loose and must wobble when it is running.

I checked out a website that has information on the H4 magneto and found that the rotor must fit snug. Is there some way we could bush ours so it would be snug or will we just need to obtain a new rotor.

Would appreciate any advice from those that are familiar with the H4 mag.

Thanks Jon.

I think I will try to bush it up somehow so it will not wobble so much.

I doubt the rotor being a bit loose is causing your miss, as I have seen a lot of those mags with a loose rotor that run fine.

You can replace the rotor, and possibly even the fiber shaft, if it's worn, too, OR you can put a little dab of silicone sealant between the rotor and the shaft. When it hardens, the play will be gone, yet the rotor could still be pulled of later, if needed, because the silicone will let go without breaking anything.

Thanks Bob. I think I will use some tape to bush it up so it will not wobble so much to see if it improves how it runs.

It was running pretty well before I took the rotor off to inspect it and since that time it seems to run rough.

I first thought it was a carburetor problem but this may be the problem.
