How sad am I?

I dont think I can possably comunicate how completely disheartend I feel after finding this.
I was all set to have a great day putting my C263 back together.
As I was putting the pistons in again. I noticed this line on 4 of the 6 sleeves. At 1st I thought it was just a scratch. Thats no scratch. 4 of the 6 sleeves are useless cracked the same as this one.
Oh well I guess its a good thing I caught it now, rather than having some sleeves wrapped around the crank wile disking. ARGGGGG GGGG!!!!

Now maybe readers will see it does not pay to beat on things.That is what micrometers and hole guages are for.

i wish you were closer. i put my dry sleeves in one of the -80 degree freezers at work for a couple of hours and they fall in the block. no worry about breaking one beating it in.

How hard did the sleeves go it? I make sure they go in 3/4 of the way by hand with WD-40 on them then tap them in with a block of wood and plastic mallet,

The sleeves went in real easy. Maybe it was too easy? When they hit the end they just popped I guess.
I am going to have to find a better way before I do it again. Wont take much of this to put me out of the old tractor game.

STiil trying to figure whats the best way to move forward.
Looks like it will be about $300 for 4 sleeves or $400 for a new kit.

If they go that easy then they will end up breaking off at the same spot and end up down around the crank they are a PRESS FIT not a hand fit .

I just rebuilt a 450 and the instructions said slip fit, that they should go in 3/4 of the way by hand then tap them the rest of the way with a block of wood and mallet, I did a 350 about 5 years ago and they went in with a press fit and that really messed up the bores, the sleeves formed to the shape of the block bores, the maching shop miked the block bores (no sleeves) they were not even close to straight! the 450 I did before I installed the sleeves you could feel waves in the block bores, my 300 I did sleeves were soo tight I took the block to the machine shop to fit the sleeves, if they would of been pressed in you would of never got the pistons in! I also did a H 2 sleeves went 3/4 of the way in and two just about fell in had to use sleeve retainer on the two, I talked to a couple machine shops and they said slip fit 3/4 of the way, sleeves are too thin to press in,

A crack like that comes from pounding in the sleeves, rather than pressing. The last hammer blow sends the sleeve deeper ( by inertia ) and pulls the flange up, or off.

Condolences on your loss. A buddy used bad sleeves for fire cracker cannons, brazed down to a 1/4" plate with a fuse hole in them propelling a tin can to 300' (be safe)

That's not good , spare parts for the junk pile . It does not take much to crack them buckel them or warp them.
