I need to know where the serial number tag should be located on a Super W6. If it"s not there anymore how do I tell the year. Is there such thing as an early or late SW6. Thanks for any replies. JaredM

Should be a plate riveted onto the left side of the clutch compartment. There were 3 Stages of SW-6. All had the 264 motor and faster 2,3,and 4th gears over the W-6. The first Stage was basically only those improvements as disc brakes were on the last W-6s. The Stage 2 had a channel frame and 18 inch front tires. They, along with late Stage 1 had sealed beam lights. The late Stage 2 had the newer seat with the undermounted spring and shock. The Stage 3 had major changes. Like a Torque Amplifier and Independent PTO, along with revamped controls-throttle, choke and starter, longer wheelbase and hood. There are proably other changes that I am omitting; after all the last SW-6TA was produced in November, 1954. More questions, just post here!.....QR..

So ours must be the stage 2 because it has the seat with spring and it has independent PTO thanks to an M&W hand clutch not a factory option. So what years were the stage 2 made and if it was split early and late where would you put it. I need to know because I need a new wiring harness and the cheapest place"s catalog says there is an early SW6 seial numbers 501-3950 and then they have another just listed as SW6. Thanks for the help. JaredM

My source does not specify specific serial number breaks other than by year, which are as follows:501-2907 are 1952s; 2908-8996 are 53s; any higher are 54s. I would suggest that the seat could have been replaced; the M and W PTO is an axle declutch giving live PTO, a big improvement over the transmission PTO. Is your M and W PTO lever on the left side? Also front wheels could have been changed from 16`to 18`over the years. Is the front belley frame is U shaped without slots along the side, or is it a channel style with oval holes, similar to a Farmall H-56 series? The U shaped frame would date it as a Stage 1, unless somebody got really ambitious and swapped. Anything is possible, and they would interchange, but I would much rather put my time towards chasing females than switching frames....ya know....??? Hope this helps...QR..
