i recently purchased a black stripe 1568 tractor. After doing so i have now heard the v8 engines are no good. What do they mean? What goes wrong with the engine that i should look for?

Biggest issue I recall was that they were fuel hogs and lacking in torque. Most guys found a 1566 could do the same job for less fuel.

66/68 The V8 needs all the air it can get. Having said that, some guys thought they need the air clearner out the top of the hood, bad bad. When IH came with the baffle in front of the radiator it would take out 90% or more of the dirt if it is sealed good along the side and top. As far as service make sure the air cleaner indecator is working and use it when the indicator says dirty replace it. Never clean a dry paper filter, change it. Never lug the V8 and yse change the oil about every 100 hours.

It may have been cause by the care they received.
They never made anything that couldn't be torn up.
The conditions these tractors operate in need their air cleaners serviced every day and the oil changed more often. You pull all that dust and grit into the crankcase is like dumping valve grinding compound into an engine. Even cooling
can be a problem if the radiator isn't service
when operating in dusty fields. Hal
