Well Once it quite raining we got a chance to work on the H. Took the 3 wires , 2 go to the generator, and 1 to the mag. Took those off, and made some new ones up, also got a new regulator. So my bro sat on it and with some choke it started up, we were so happy. So today we got it goin again, it does run, but takes awile to get it goin, it cranks for along time. Also the amp meter dosn't work. But after running it and shutting it off it still has juice, does the battery hold charge, or is it charging and the gauge don't work? How do you check if it is charging? Also, do you have any hints on how to ajust the carb? It runs aright but still abit rough. Thanks for the help!

Wow a load of questions.

First the battery will hold enough charge for several starts, so just because it will start again isn’t a reliable indicator that the generator is charging.

Second, ammeters do malfunction, seems to me that when the ammeter goes, so does the circuit but since you have a magneto it will keep running. If you have lights try and see if they work. If you have a known good ammeter replace the defective one. The other option to see if it is charging is to get a voltmeter and take a reading. A 6 volt battery should show 6.5 to 6.7 volts if the generator is charging, 13 to 13.5 or so on 12 volt.

Carburetor engines all have their own little quirks on starting and you need to try different choke settings to find which works best for yours. On my M if it above freezing once over on full choke then about half way in will almost fire it up immediately every time (course I’m on 12-volt). The colder the more choke, the warmer the quicker I flick the choke on and off.

As far as settings, about one and a half turns out on the main and idle jets is a place to start. Then with it idling, turn the idle mixture screw (should be on the top of the carburetor) in until it runs worse. Then turn it out past the best idle until it starts running worse. Then count the turns as you go back in until it is past the sweet spot and begins to run worse. Now, back it out half the number of turns and you should have the idle set. Now speed up the engine and do the same with the main jet (should be towards the bottom of the carburetor) and you should be very close. You may still need to enrich one or the other if it hesitates on throttle up, or lean out if it smokes black.

Good luck.
