Farmall 350 or 300 shifting pattern

Can someone tell me the shifting pattern on a Farmall 350. I am not sure which model the tractor is, it has a 350 emblem on one side and a 300 emblem on the other side. What are some ways to tell them apart? This tractor has a TA on it. The serial nomber on it is 9884 SJ. Thanks for any help.

Sure its a Farmall and not a Utility? A Farmall is a rowcrop tractor,a Utility is a jack of all trades industrial type.

A 350 is red and white, a lot of 300's have been painted that way -- I don't have either, thus I don't know the specific differences except that the 300 has a 169 cu in engine, the 350 a 175. Either C169 or C175 will be cast into the right side of the block toward the rear. The engine could have been replaced. If you can still read the prefix on your serial tag the prefix is F300 or F350, followed by your serial number.

Thank you for the info. The part of the serial number that I posted is all that can be read, so I will have to look at the casting numbers. My wife is learning how to rake with this tractor, and it is kind of new to me also, so I wanted her to know what gear she was putting it in. Thanks for the help.

If you have the tractor and the ability to drive it, then you should be able to figure out the shifting pattern. Gears are always numbered from slowest to fastest, always arranged in a logical "H" style shift pattern like a car or truck, and it's pretty darned easy to get the tractor in an open area, put it in the various gears, and see which ones make the tractor go faster, or backwards.

Always? I drove an MM Z in the 50's. Shift pattern was
2 1 5
R 4 3.

Ford 8N, etc is
R 1 4
0 2 3 I think, haven't driven one of those for a while. The 0 is there so I can get the 2 under the 1. But, yes you can experiment.

That Mpls Moline shift pattern is the strangest one I've ever seen. What were they thinking?

Some JD's have a screwy pattern too. Maybe Nat2 isn't very familiar with other tractors.

Interesting thing happened when I went to pick up my dad's (and grandpa's on mom's side, he sold it to dad) F-14. He could not get it to pull out of the pasture it had been in 30 years. Said the transmission was locked up.

I took his Kubota down to look at it and got it in neutral because it has a capital I shift pattern, not H. He had forgotten although his memory and mental acuity is fine at 82.
