Been watching prices on this board for about 6 years. Seems to me some folks are just plain greedy. I"m seeing more and more rusty average machines for sale for $10,000 plus. Oh and it"s both colors. Well I guess it"s a free country, and anyone can ask whatever they want to. Just needed to get that out.

I can remember 10 years ago or so, people giving away their H's and M's, just cause they didn't need it any more. You get it outta here, you can have it sorta thing. If they ran then would bring about scrap price on an auction. Now 1200 bucks won't hardly touch one!

Maybe it's a greedy person who wants to pay only $5000 for a $10000 machine. In either case, it's called capitalism, one of the foundations of our country. The right to own and sell personal property is clearly a difference between the US and lots of other countries around the world. A property owner can ask any price for his property and everyone else has the right to walk away. Just like in Sears or Walmart.

Prices for these old tractors are going up, and I don't mean just the asking prices. Just a few years ago a decent H would sell for an average of $800. That same H today would bring closer to $1,400.

OK Geoff, If the same tractor was sitting in your yard, what would you ask for it? So tell me, do you have any tractors for sale? What are you asking for them? Why not?

And a lot of those tractors have been for sale a looong time. I noticed some as being a year. They come on the site, and go off and come back again. I saw an oliver 550 sit at a local lot for 4 years. It was consigned. The lot owner finally made the guy come get it. The price was too much, but some people just can't stand to lose a penny. They will buy something, use it for years, and expect to get every penny out of it. If not they feel the are losing?

The seller is free to "ask" whatever he wants. Its up to the public to set the value.Yes, these old tractors are expensive, but look at the alternative. A new McCormick 58 Hp tractor is $23k at my dealer. If a new tractor would come down in price, the used market would fall. As new price keeps climbing so does the used...

It's no different than any thing else, it is called " conditioning". Just like we are all condition ed to pay $3 gas and deisel, conditioned to "buy it now" Real estate is doing the same thing, selling for 10x what it was 3 years ago, As long as people gobble it up it anything will continue to climb. Maybe Walmart should get into the real estate sales , and tractors. Oh, I guess that would mean we would have to buy land made in Tiawan, china, or the pricy stuff Mexico.

I guess we can just "hold off" on the buying a little and maybe some reality will sink in. :>)
