Just bought an International 560 diesel wheatland, and I"ve got a few questions. There is a small amount of oil in the radiator. Figured it was a head gasket, but found an oil cooler. Do these go bad? There is not a bit of water in the oil.

Both brake covers (drums?) are cracked. Do these need to be replaced, or is it not a big deal? If needed, where can I get them?

The tach is locked up, and of course the cable is broke also. Are new ones common, and where?

Also, I"ve got a rusty rim. Tractor has cast iron centers, and the rim is 16" by 30".

Thanks for your help- never had a 560 before, so your help is appreciated. KB

Thanks for the tips. I"m going to unhook and plug the water hoses at the oil cooler and run it for a bit to see if oil runs out. Sounds like the cooler is the problem. The rim is turning out to be a real problem. I spoke to some IH collectors today, and they said it"s a hard one to find. I did find 2 new blank rims, but would have to remove my mounting lugs, and rivet (or bolt) them to the new rims. Sounds like a pain, but they would be new. Has anyone done this? Please let me know if it"s a bad idea. Thanks again- Kevin

Yes, oil coolers do go bad and cause oil to get in the water. Take the oil cooler to your local radiator shop and have it pressure tested, or just replace it. Getting all of that oil flushed out of the cooling system can be a real pain. Might take several flushes with whatever brand of cooling system cleaner your local auto parts store sells. On the brake covers, yes they do crack. Do they need to be replaced? Just depends on what you expect of your brakes. Those brakes were never that great, if both brakes can safely stop the tractor, I'd just live with the cracks. Your Case-IH dealer should have a new tach cable, and possibly a new tach. See new, used, and rebuilt tachs for 560's on ebay all of the time. Check with your local farm tire shop for that rim.
