As for the parts book, it shows the starter button on the rear gas tank support at the base(the screw holes are already there) at the bottom and the starter lever is foot activated., supported by the steering post. I restored my 41 to that way and it is fine. Got parts from Joes Farmall in Clarion PA.

my 1942 m has the starter button at the base of the steering post below the light switch box, it is a straight rod with a mushroomed head. my 48 and 51 m both have the starter in the same location but it is a bent rod. the 42 is kind of a pain because you have to twist yer toe a little to push the rod in.

I have wanted to know the same thing - when did the starter switch change locations on the M? Let's have a little history lesson here from you M experts.
What about the starter switch on the H? Did it have more than one location?

I have driven about every year of M except 1939 and they all had rod through bottom of steering column that went to actual starter button some had the offset gizmo but that could be added to any year the Phase one Super Ms have the same set up. Have seen some around that have push button or key in light switch box but do not think they were born like that.

I can vouch for the H having foot start, column mounted button, and the pull ring on the Super's (I've driven all three)...but h*ck if I know the years. This will be an interesting thread to follow!

Experts?

Billy
