Hello again, I asked the question last night about the current drain on my Super C. I tested it as one reader recommended, yes I am showing 12+ volts on the multimeter plus.....the alternator is extremely hot to the touch after running the tractor for 5 minutes or so. Would this indicate bad diodes in the alternator? Or....improper wiring job?? Thanks again, Russ

Morning guys, Let me tell you where I'm at right now.....I noticed this morning that with the alternator connected I am getting about a 3 amp draw on my ammeter. I disconnected the alternator and the ammeter went to zero (middle). I left the alternator disconneced and proceded to put a full charge in the battery (new Battery). I have a tractor show tomorrow in Cullman Alabama and I am gonna take it with the alternator disconnected and with a fully charged battery. It seems to run just fine with no connection to the alternator. Next week I will give the alternator to a lady in the area that repairs them and see if that's the problem. I am thinking that it is! You guys are human enclyclopedias!!!! Keep up the good work!!! thanks again, Russ

Good. That tractor will operate for several days on one charge if it isn't started repeatedly. If you can, charge it over night between uses. JimN

A bad diode in the alt. will do that. Disconnect the alternator and see if the 12+ volts goes away. If it does replace the alternator. So far a good diagnosis, JimN

I don't understand your reasoning,if you disconnect the alternator, the battery is still connected so how can the 12 volts go away?

Sorry, the post was in reference to the earlier dialog and analysis procedure. I had indicated that if one battery post (in this case the pos) was disconnected, and a volt meter was placed between the removed terminal, and the bat post, that there would be a 12+ volt reading on the meter with everything shut off if there was a battery drain. The disconnection of the alternator (which I believe is faulty) would result in that indicated 12+volts to go to at or near zero. Give the other post a look see and I think it will be understandable. Sorry for an incomplete post out of context. JimN

I now understand. I did see the other message but wasn't sure they were related. Thanks.

Not sure with the limited info you provided. I would suspect the alternator, or a shorted battery.
I would disconnect the basttery and see if it goes down by about 2 volts overnight, if so it has a shorted cell. Replace the battery.
