Hey, the picture you provided on a thread of mine on how to build your own spiltting stand was really small. I couldn't read the print on it. Do you have a larger copy you can e-mail to me? If I can print out a usable copy, I can take it to a local community college, or a metal working place, and figure out how much it would be to build a pair of them.

My e-mail is tractor@ghostskies.com

Thanks!

Mike

Yes!!! I need to wait till I get home to do it because it is on my home computer. I'll add some more text as well on a seperate sheet. This is very doable, thanks for asking. I feel it is far enough in the future that even if they need to schedule it to be done, it is reasonable. I'll also attach DXF files of the 3D model. JimN

"they"? What did I miss? I thought I was taking the plans to my local college and begging them. Do you have some sort of tech college that can do the work for you?

Technical Colleges. (part of the California State Colleges and University system) often take reasonable projects for student education. They usually have planned the semester, but many students are often in need of a compatible project with reasonable goals. The key is to go in with the idea that they will assist on their own time line. If the plans are clear, and they have the material presented to them in stock lengths (uncut) they will usually be more than willing to assist. (I teach metals at a University (SCSU in MN) and this would be a fine product for two students to tackle. As Wardner points out, their are strength requirements for the welds. The certified welding teachers in a vocational program would not have an issue with that. Highschool vocational programs might. If you want it done yesterday, it won't go over as well as if you give them a chance to tell you when it can get done.
I am sending a few files in ProE schools format, Autocad Inventor format, and in Jpeg (picture) format. JimN

Jim,

Send the files to the following e-mail address. We swapped my website onto a new server, so the new path hasn't resolved yet.

You can also go to the metal fab instructor at a vocational high school.

However, I have to wonder if these schools or their school boards want the liability inherent with building things to support weight. I am not sure a signed disclaimer would protect them. It might be better if you did not disclose the purpose of the stands.

Its just awful about lawsuits nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions. Down the road there wont be any repairmen for anything as just blame it on the manufacture.
