I have recently purchased a model 56 4 row planter and the marker arms wont work properly and row 1 and 3 dont plant well (like the timing is off). Can anyone help me in finding a manual/parts list or advice? Also looking for some plates for this planter. Thanks for your help. Todd

I have a large assortment of plates. Let me know what # you will need. It depends on the seed size you intend to plant.

Check the cut off pawls and the seed kicker in the bottom seed meter .Springs may be broken or other parts.Next would be the bevel gears on the seed drive. The markers they were a pain in the butt when new.

AFAIK, there is no "timing" to this planter. The wheels turn a shaft which turns a chain which turns a shaft which turns a right-angle gearbox which turns a shaft which turns a gearbox which turns the planter plate. It"s all one continuous motion.

Either the plate turns, or it doesn"t:
1.If it"s not dropping seeds, the plate isn"t turning.
2. If it"s dropping a bunch of seeds in one spot, then no seeds for a long ways, the chute from the seed box to the opener is clogged.
3. If it"s dropping seeds sometimes, the plate is only turning sometimes. That means something is broken. Watch the shafts that run back to the seed boxes. If they"re turning, then the gearbox that turns the plate is broken or not meshing correctly.

They were a fairly good planter and not real complex but a manual would help. You may have to adjust the chain lengths to get the markers working properly. What do you mean 1 and 3 aren't planting properly? Are the plates the same/ Do you mean they are not dropping seeds or the quantity of seeds is the problem?. There should be lots of plates around, but if you don't want several sets you need to match the size of the kernel to the plate size and number of seeds per unit acre. I haven't got a complete manual, just a photo copied version of the main points, I'm guessing there's lots of manuals to be had..good luck
