am putting a 1950 demonstrator c back to original with 6 volt positive ground what terminal on the coil gets the hot wire and then the other would naturally go to the dist ..thanks

The coil "-" terminal gets the hot wire from the ignition switch. The coil "+" then gets connected to the distributor.

Generally speaking, whatever terminal on the battery that does NOT go to ground, is what the hot wire goes to on the coil. Most older tractors are positive ground, so the hot wire goes to the neg of the coil. Hope this helps. In addition, the wire coming from the distributor gets grounded by the points, so that needs to go to the side of the coil which the tractor's battery terminal is grounded to.

This is true all the time. If its + ground then + goes to the distubutor. If - ground then the - goes to the distubutor. That holds true on every coil
