Just pulled the crankshaft in the super C today and was checking the bearings. The rod bearings were .002 oversized. The main bearings dont have any oversize marks, but they do have these numbers: Fm IH usa
35579-1/3DB
L-200
1 51
Am I safe to assume that these are standard bearings? My first engine rebuild, so be patient with me. Patrick

Thanks Riverbend for your insight. This is my first rebuild and I am not going to skimp on anything. Its just money..... anyway, I am almost ready to take the block and get it boiled out. I want it squeaky clean. lol. Anyone had good luck with the rebuild kit from this site for a super C? let me know. Patrick

the 1 51 number is the date the bearings were made. i like to check the dates on the engines that i tear down to see when they were last rebuilt. your main bearings are the originals.

It is best not to assume anything.

The 0.002" undersize (the hole in the middle is smaller...) bearings were to compensate for wear without regrinding the crank. It is best to measure it or have it measured to see where it is now.

The price of the replacement bearing will be the same no matter what size you need, about $100 for rods and mains. I just picked up my reground crank today. At $106.00 the cost of a regrind is not too bad.

With respect, journal bearings are undersized when referbished. JimN

Get some plastigage and determine if the mains are with in the correct tolerance. Very cheap and very easy.

Never assume anything, not sure measure crank up with micrometer. Check specs. with a proper shop manual.
