Need a 40 H block or ????

Finally decided to pull the 300 engine out of the early 1940 H I bought and put it into our 47 to use as our daily work tractor; live hyds.

Now I need to come up with an accurate replacement block to reasonably match the original 1940 engine. I could overhaul the 1947 engine, it is shot, but would like to put the early tractor back to as close as original condition as possible.

The original motor "blew-up" according to the guy I purchased it from and is long gone.

I believe the 1940 might actually have been a true "gasoline" model. Serial number around 14,+++ something. Rear gear housing has shift pattern cast into it. Seat is square tubing held down by the one bolt, according to brother-in-law, but it looks very weird, like extra stuff attached. I didn't pay much attention when I picked up.

So, what is the best way to proceed here? I haven't gotten hold of one of Guy's books yet.

Are there cutoff casting dates on the blocks and heads?

Thx skk

Thx fellows will keep you all in mind and email you.

Can you clarify what year blocks are the same as the 40, or is each year's casting the same?

skk

I have a 1942 Farmall H parts tractor with a good block. I am located in North central Texas. If interested I can send you the tractor serial number and casting numbers.
