I am restoring a Farmall Super H for a fellow and was needing to know how to get the radiator off so I can have it sandblasted. How does the steering shaft come out of the radiator?
Thanks
Adam

Does the worm gear behind the big nut run in grease, and so is there some kind of seal behind the nut?

It's been a while since I've done one,I think the big nut is just a fancy pipe plug,There maybe a gasket, but I don't think so. John.

Actually I am not going to sandblast the radiator, just the tractor. I don't think I would have much left of the radiator if I sandblasted it!!!! John, thanks for the explaination. I had a feeling that is how it came apart.
Thanks again
Adam

Did you say you are going to sand blast the radiator?? I should think having a radiator shop hot tank it would be easier on thin copper tubes that may be very thin at their age. But then it's your radiator.

Once the grill is off,He will see a large nut on the front of the bolster on the steering.Remove this nut, pull the steering shaft apart at the joint by the center support,(this usually means loosening the lock collar below the steering wheel and pulling the steering wheel up a couple of inches)Then the steering shaft will screw right out of the front of the upper bolster. There are a couple of bolts that come up into the bottom of the radiator. And the brackets that can be seen on top.Its really pretty simple, but things can be tight when theyr'e 50to60 years old. John.
