Farmall Super C with a spark problem.
I replaced the following: points, condensor, coil, plugs, plug wires, rotor, ignition switch and cap. And I get interemittent spark at the points. If I clean up the points with a file I will get one good spark. Any ideas out there? By the way it has a distributor. I've check all wire connections and ground and all is good.

Check ALL connections from the battery up to the coil---including the ignition switch. We had a tractor-I forget which one-- that had your symptoms, & it was one of the terminals which attached to the coil that had just one strand of wire left making contact. In effect, it was a high resistance in the coil primary circuit. If you have a voltmeter, check what the voltage is at the coil primary when you [1] have points open--should be battery voltage or close [2] points closed---will vary if points are loused up or condenser is faulty. I fought a bad "new" condenser for 2 hours one time. Don't assume anything. Check out everything.

you may have a bad ground or possibly a bad coil

Did you replace all these parts because it had intermittent spark, or was there another problem ?

Did you remove the distributor when you put in those parts? If you did, did you time the distributor on the tractor? Are the wires on the distributor hooked up correctly?

Did the engine run before you replaced all these items? You need to check for battery voltage at your coil. With the ignition switch on
you should have voltage on both small terminals on the coil with the points open.

If you have voltage there pull the coil wire from the distr. cap and hold it near a good ground then have someone snap those points open and close a few times to see if there's fire from the coil wire. You need to check to see if you have the plug wires in the correct firing order on the distributor and to the correct plug. Should be in this order: Hal

2-1
4-3 Since your rotor rotates CW.

I"m assuming here that you used copper core spark plug wire, not graphite???

Thanks for all of the replies. I had an intermittent spark problem when I got the tractor. It had those graphite wires and I figured that was the problem. I replaced them with copper core wires and replaced all the other stuff while I was at it. I assumed the wires were in the correct location so I put them back in the same place. Does anyone know the numbering order on the cap? I was thinking that the wires are in the wrong location too. But that doesn't explain the weak or no spark at the points unless I hit it with a file then I get one good spark and a pop from the engine.
