Did you fix the wiring that burned? If it was running up until then I would suspect that you didnt wire it back correctly.

James,
You may have a couple of valves stuck open. Take the valve cover off and take a look. Also make sure the butterfly valve on the carb is free. This is the one up near the manifold. I just had a similar problem and found I had a few valves stuck open.

Like the others have said, pull the plugs out , but if you don't have the socket, try this, turn the gas off and leave it off. Open the throttle wide open and crank for a few times and let it sit for a while, then crank again and let sit. if it fires up then turn the gas back on and see if you have black smoke. More than likely the needle valve is stuck or has a piece of crud in between the seat.

Check and see if the needle in the carb is stuck or sticking, that can flood it out. You should also check the plugs and clean the points.

i think it was flooded because gas ran out of the carb.

Gas will run out of all IH carbs if they are over choked when starting. Minimal use of the choke will solve the problem. In warm weather you may not even need the choke -- otherwise do as the others say.

Could possibly be the float sticking the carb. letting it flood out. I have had that happen a few times. My 301 Deere will do that every now and then. Usually starts back after awhile or I just let it set overnight. Whack the side of the carb lightly with a small hammer or wrench and run some B-12 through the gas to see if that will help.

If you really flooded it, the spark plugs could be fouled out. Some plugs made these days, foul out easily. I'd try a fresh set of plugs.

Take out a plug and see if they are wet with gas which would indicate flooding. If the plugs are dry check to see if you have gas flow to the carburetor.
