I switched my 300U over to 12v a couple of years ago. At the time I left the 6 volt coil in and added a ballast resistor. Recently I changed the coil to 12 volt, but I left the ballast resistor in the system. Should I not be using it now that its a 12v coil or should it be a different resistance?

Napa sells a 12 volt coil with a built-in resistor
for about $40.00 unless they've went up. Their part number is 1C14SB. Hal

Most resistors drop the voltage by 50 %. You want 6 volts going to the points. The points will eventually burn out and the coil could blow up from the resistance. It is a real mess when a coil blows up too.

Depends on what the coil says on it. Some 12 volts coils say resister need and some say no resister needed on them. They don't say it in those words but you get what I mean I hope. So if it says resister needed yep you need it and if it says no resister needed take it off because you will not be getting as hot a spark as you should
