Does Stage II Have 2-Way Hydraulics? (Tell The Truth!)

Howdy, Boys: I thought all stage II Super H's and Super M's had 2-way hydraulics (down pressure), but two different people have told me, that while they have LIVE hydraulics, they do not have down pressure, unless you add a 2-way valve. If true, this would explain why someone has gone to the trouble of adding a Char-Lynn 2-way valve to my stage II SH, I suppose.
What is the "real deal" here? Thanks, as always. mike durhan

Power up, gravity down unless you have the factory remote or an add-on valve. In that respect they are exactly like the dead hydraulics on the stage 1-down. Most modern 3 points do not have down pressure, but merely have some form of depth control, which to me anyway, is more important than down pressure.

To clarify my answer above (you already know this). Fast hitch or 3 point weren't available when IH used that valve, so it was for trailing implements, which do have down pressure -- I was thinking about the one way Saginaw 3 point on my Stage 2 Super H, which would probably work better with some type of depth control system. But, my understanding is the down pressure on the Super C fast hitch, etc worked quite well -- I don't have one of those.

CNKS:
Yes, I see what you mean. I am quite used to my Super A's, which are factory set-ups and have down pressure. I suppose this was why I erroneously assumed the stage 2 tractors had down pressure, since both the SA and the stage 2 H had factory live hydraulics. Now I know they are not of the same ilk.
My SH has a Char-Lynn 2-way valve on it, and now I know why. I was going to take it off, but now will leave it on and use it.
Thanks again for your helpful information. I really appreciate you and the other fellows who help so many. mike durhan

Mike, you can also put the valve on the regular H or M and have two way hydraulics on those. It just won't be live, so it still wouldn't work with clutch pushed in.

Hi, George. Yes, I knew that, ol' buddy. What I did not know was that the live hydraulics on a stage II set-up only had one way (up) pressure. I know it now. So... both stage one and stage 2 are the same - except for the business of the clutch pedal deactivating the hydraulics on a stage 1. I got it straight now. mike durhan

I understand that. What I did not know was, since a super A has two way pressure, I thought the stage 2 Super H would have it built in also, as both have IH factory live hydraulics. Now, I know that is not the case with the SH (and SM) tractors. Thanks. mike
