I need to get in between the transmission and engine of a IH 484 and never split a tractor in 2 before. I ordered a repair manual but haven't got it yet. I was wondering how it comes apart on the inside of the transmission. Its a piece of cake on the outside but I don't want to damage anything on the inside. Has anyone here done this before? Does it just slide apart?

If you think about it, it kinda HAS to just slide apart. There's no way to get in there to undo a bolt.

Typically, the input shaft of the transmission just slides into the center hole of the clutch disk, and the drive tube for the live hydraulics and PTO just slides into the pressure plate.

You will need good jacks, lots of sturdy blocking, and ideally, a splitting stand to support the back of the engine and allow you to roll it away from the tractor. Splitting stands can often be borrowed from fellow tractor enthisiasts, or they're pretty easy to make.

Yes it should just slide apart after unhooking everything on the out side.
