I am working to restore my grandfathers 1953 Super C. According to what I can find, the IH paint code for the 1953 time period would be #1102. This is no longer available from Case-IH and I have not found a code match from DuPont, PPG, etc. IH #2150 is available, but has a little orange tint. I would rather match the original paint if possible. Does anyone know an available paint match for IH #1102?

Thank you.

I just went thorugh this with thew PPG shop. Their 71310 is a lot more orange than what you are looking for. It is something on the order of 1500 parts viol;et, 750 of orange and ten of black.

I had the local shop scan a clean part from another tractor. I'm quite happy with what they came up with and how it turned out. Basically they cut the violet in half and put in am almost like amount of red, and added a touch of white.

PPG tints for one quart were

932 Red 408.8
987 Organic Orange 397.1
987 Violet 279.4
902 Black 9.1
900 Str White 5.3

Total cumulative parts is 1099.7

All tints have the prefix DMC and were used in Concept (DCC) base. I don't know if that will transfer directly to a different base or not.
The organic orange is also a different one from whatthe 71310 calls for.

No, the Concept toners are different from Omni or any other PPG line, so you have to start from scratch again. Even the names of some of the toners are different. In Omni, the "organic" is the red toner, I think the orange is simply called "orange", I don't have my label in front of me.

Thanks for catching that. I was afraid thaat might be the case.

Wayne, The pic below is what my paint looked like after a few days drying. If it's more on the order of what you're looking for, and you're thinking of using a different PPG paint, email me, and I'll see If I can get them to scan by battery box cover and come up with the mix for the base you want to use.

I'm happy with the Concept, but it's a) really pretty costly as paint goes and b) it isn't made to take the beating a working tractor would put on it.

I used it on a sentimental restoration, that's more for show, parades, and occasional light work.

Posing red iron in reply to ScottyHOMEy, 08-02-2007 20:06:54
ScottyHOMEy, I am wondering if you took photography as a 4-H member? Reason for my ? - Now that is the way to 'pose' your red iron. *a plain, simple background doesn't distract from the subject *the viewfinder was filled with your subject *the subject was shot at an angle showing more than one side, this also gives your subject 'depth' *a light overcast sky eliminates harsh light 'hot spots' and dark shadows, thus giving us detail These tips flatter our subject - in this case 'red iron' and after all, don't we want to show off our subject, be it in work clothes or a restored project to folks? A great job and thanks for sharing. As a Wisc. 4-H photography judge, I would give you a blue ribbon for your entry, and I always say, '...have fun at the fair and keep shooting!"

Concept will take MORE of a beating than the cheaper paints -- it's just that after spending about $500 a gallon for paint and primer, you don't want it to take a beating.

George,

Will the automotive paint folks be able to match the IH code? I do not have a DuPont, PPG, etc paint code.

Thanks

Not sure idf they can now days or not, but the one here use to be able to. I have been buying mine for the last 10 years from Brad Marshall. Not sure what the code on it is, but it does have a little orange tint to it when fresh, but as it ages a little it darkens right up.

Wayne, just go to a good automotive paint suppier and give them that code number. They can mix it right there for you.

I hope so, but my PPG dealer can't cross 1102 or the number that followed, 201. Anyway, the current colors do not match the original colors -- in other words you can't get an exact match, and sometimes they aren't even close. I just have the dealer change the toners until I'm satisfied, then keep the printout for further use. The orange toner can be somewhat eliminated by replacing with the red toner. The amounts of the original toners are listed on the back of the label, with PPG anyway.
