Great Deal On A Super M???

Howdy, Boys:

Ebay Item #140146287193; Now here is an example of what I would call a good deal on a Super M. It has a LOT to offer, to wit: Stage II, all 4 new tires, newer style IH wide front end (stronger and turns sharper), Saginaw dual cylinder 3-point hitch (the best), new remote valve, straight sheet metal and all gauges work.

Let's do the math: Typical rusty Stage II Super M goes for around $2,200+/-. Now, let's get it up to this same condition: Add new tire cost: $1,000; add IH heavy duty wide front: at least $400; Add new Saginaw 3-point (with freight): $800; Total: $4,400.

Minimum bid: $2,750. NOBODY BIDS!

Yet, they practically fist-fight over a $1,400 tired out M emitting blue smoke, with old cracked tires, belly hydraulics and nothing but a welded up draw-bar.

I can never figure out these ebay bidders.... Fascinating.

Add another 300 for the fenders. $4700 It aint over yet. It's only 1000 miles from here.Lets see, 15mpg on the Dodge CDT is 133 gals at about 3 bucks per, or 400 bucks transportation. And I pick up a hual from the haul board on the way over? Gotta BID!

On the down side it has no live hydraulics. Why I do not know but you can usually sell a raggy M before a nice one. Bid away.

I paid $2250 for a Super H with similar or worse appearance in 2002, but I saw the tractor first, and knew about what to expect. I imagine I put $3000 in it. That ebay tractor has been cleaned up, which in the pictures can hide a lot of leaks, etc. And unless I could run a compression test or at least listen to it run, I would have no idea of the condition. I don't buy long distance. Being a Stage 2 it may or may not be worth the money, depending on what it looks like in person. If I was in the market for one and it wasn't 1500 miles away, I would at least look at it. Bid for it on ebay, no way.

I agree with you. But the bidders are bidding under the same circumstances for the $1400 "M". I'm still amazed...

My reason is if the price is a 4 digit number with the first one higher than "1", I tend to get nauseous, unless it is a "special" tractor, to me anyway. Because, regardless of the condition, I'm likely to still spend $3000 or more on repairs, paint, etc. But, it would be nice to get one that doesn't need tires or a Saginaw 3 point--that would be a first for me.
