I'm guessing that I did not use this forum correctly. I tried to answer the reply from Mr. Fay, however, if there has been one, I can't find it. I have pasted my reply below, if anyone associated with Mr. Fay, or yourself Sir, should see this "post?", please contact me directly at my email - kdrwhiteknight@yahoo.com -. Thank you [anyone] for the assistance. I apologize for the apparent fact that I do not understand this format.
sincerely,
Kelly Rooks

Hello Sir,
I hope I am sending this reply out correctly, I've never used one of these discussion board things, so I'm not at all certain how they work. [If this ends up in the wrong place, I would request any help from anyone as to what I am supposed to do.]
Sir, wow, the replies were very fast and extensive [and some rather entertaining]. As I mentioned in an email -which was returned undeliverable- -now I understand why-.. I was given your name by a gentleman in Panora, IA. I was working on a short film shoot there and we were working on his farm for one location. He had several tractors, one of which was a Farmall H. Hearing my interest, he shared with me some stickers, toys, etc., plus a very nice document which he stated he had received from yourself. In that document form you listed a great deal of information about his specific tractor, [date made, location, etc.]. My father has a Farmall B. I mentioned that I would like to get my father such a document for his birthday this year. He will be 83. He gave me an obviously old email address and told me that I should contact you, that you were very helpful and could likely create the same kind of document for me. He mentioned that I would need a number, [serial? manufacture?] from my Dad's B. I don't even know where to look on Dad's tractor for that number though I used to help work with it and help fix it for years. My life has taken a different course. I would be very, very appreciative if you could help me with this - I want to give my father something I know he'd enjoy, and at 83 it is getting harder and harder to find things the folks want or need.
His birthday is this September 2nd. I hope that gives us some time. I will pay you what I can for your efforts, since it seems that you no longer have the resources available to you that you likely had some years ago. Also, I understand from this 'board' that you authored a book. I think that might be a very cool addition to my gift idea; can you tell me if it is still available?
My Dad always told me that his B was built about 46 or 48? Any help would be so much appreciated. Also, I don't mind using this form, but if it would be better to send some information to an email or ISP/FTP site, please let me know and I will get that information to you.
Again, my many thanks.

FAB 65190 is the serial number. It was built in Chicago in 1941. The other codes you found, 5 23 K and 6 30 K are date codes for the individual castings. They are the days the parts were cast in the foundry. They would have been machind into finished parts at a later date then used to assemble the tractor at an even later date. The dates are May 23, 1941 and June 30, 1941. The month and day are fairly obvious. The year code you just have to know. You may find other date codes on other large castings (bell housing, final drive housings etc.).

I done some checking, and it seems that most B's might have been made in Chicago instead of Rock Island. I am not certain, but there are folks here that do know.

If you want info on the B tractor just post your question here. First you need the serial number to date the tractor. B's were built between 1939 and 1947, so it couldn't be a 48. The serial number will be on a metal tag, located on the underside of the seat on the left hand seat mouting bracket. It is also on a flat spot on the front right side of the engine block, right under the number one spark plug. It could have been built at the Rock Island Farmall works plant or the Tractor works plant in Louisville. If you will post specific questions to this forum and that serial number folks here can help you.

Sir,
thank you for your help. I hope this reaches you, as I am still uncertain of just how this forum works. Sorry this has taken me so long to reply, but the work project I was on took me away from everything til tonight.
I was able to get to my folks place and look for the tag. It appears to have been damaged and is nearly half gone, but I was able to get a number off a location that looked like the S/N part. It read F.A.B. 65190. I was also able to locate two smaller plates covered in paint and debris. One under the shifter on the body wall near the pedals seem to read 5 23 K. I found another near the place where the steering connects to the body, it appears to read 6 30 K. Thank you for your help. I hope you get this message.

I'm still alive. Busier than heck, trying to buy a house, run the Wisconsin IH Chapter, work 50 hours a week.

Dang, I'd like Hugh's house, but the place I'm making an offer on has a stretch limo the previous occupants left in the shed, the radio antenna's a clothes hanger. Might be the Correct Police's new squad car.

Get a driver to being you to California, and you can check over my '44 H when I'm all done with it. I can see it now:

"Who told you this goes here, and that should look like that?? It's all wrong! Start over!"
