getting ready to install 6 volt battery on my A. Will make it positive ground. There has been some talk about heavy cables. Battery will operate lights and starter only. Recommendations please

I ordered OEM from the local IH dealer. They weren"t too bad in price, and they fit the tractor as they should. Looks good and works good.

Check out some of your irrigation engine places or over the road truck shops to maybe find the heavy cables.

Also the welding shops (suppliers) may have it in bulk.

My Super A has 6 gauge -- it works fine, it does not take much to turn that engine over. The H engine-up is a different story. In my area anything larger has to be ordered, I can't just go down and buy a cable at the local parts place. Of course I never plan ahead, either.

Ah - - - Make that less voltage DROP, more amperage = 00!!!! Or better yet, less voltage DROP IN THE CABLES which means more voltage at the starter.

I will toss in yet another recommendation and confirmation of that below ALWAYS USE 00 GAUGE BATTERY CABLES ON SIX VOLT SYSTEMS. Youre only starting with 6 volts in the first place and the less voltage drop n heat n energy you waste in the cables the more available at the starter..... ..... PERIOD Its not as important on a lil A or B or Cub etc., but on an H some and ESPECIALY AN M, bigger is definitely better.

Six volt system should be positive ground. I would recommend you use 1 gage cables. You can get away with 2 gage but 1 gage are better.

Six volt battery cables need to be on #1 guage or even better #0 guage, and if you can find #00, even better.
