Stuck MD ??? Advice?

I have an MD that has a stuck no. 1 piston from water getting down the stack since last year when it was free. ? is how can I get PB blaster into the cyl. without pulling the head? I have pulled the pan to check, no. one is stuck at the top of the stroke with rust on the liner below if that helps. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Andy

I'm kind of new and all... but doesn't an MD not have spark plugs? I thought diesels burned the gas with compression.

Mike, I have a WD-6, same engine as the MD.

These are gasoline start diesel engines. There's a third valve in each cylinder that opens up to a chamber containing a spark plug, plus some butterfly valves in the intake manifold which switch the air to flow through a carbuertor. In the start position, the engine runs on gasoline using a magneto & conventional spark ignition. Once its warmed up a little, you switch to diesel, at which point the third valves close to increase the compression, the intake air is routed around the carburetor, the magneto is grounded, and the diesel injection pump does its thing.

In theory, you could start one of these with a hand crank in the gas position, although I've never tried it. The engine has to be turning fast enough when you switch to diesel to have enough inertia for compression ignition.

My JD D stuck this summer after running last year, wouldn't you know that the roof has a leak directly above the exhaust and water got into one cylinder. Tonight I mixed 1.5 quarts of 1/3 diesel fuel, 1/3 brake fluid and 1/3 WD 40, and poured 1/2 into each plug hole. I have had this work before, it helps if you can have a crank on the flywheel and put a jack under the crank with a bit of pressure. The last truck engine I did like this loosened in about a week.

When I got my M unstuck I pulled the head and used 90% rubbing alchol, poured an inch on the piston and lite it on fire, It burned for a while and must have broke the rust free, I don't know if that would work with two holes in the combustion chamber, air flow in and air flow out?

Pull the injection nozzle out of the offending cylinder and apply PB direct to the cylinder. I would use the liquid rather than the aerosol if you have it. If you happen to have a block heater on it hot and cold cycles won't hurt either.

Will I be able to see directly into the cyl. from the top by pulling the injector? And would you recommend using tranny fluid over PB? Thanks for all the advice.

Andy I have done test over the last few year with both PB, tranny fluid, brake fluid and WD40 and have found that tranny fluid will remove more rust then all of he others. Now yes this is just takeing stuff I have laying around and who knows how much rust is on what but tranny fluid seems to remove more then the others in less time. But again I have no way to measure how deep the rust is or how bad things are stuck ETC ETC ETC. Sort of like Myth busters they can't do it 100% as to what the people say did because there are to many things that can happen because of freaky things

I just got a M unstuck. Put tranny fluid in cylinders as OLD suggests. I let it sit a week and then removed the starter, used a long bar in the flywheel teeth, applied pressure to the flywheel backwards, or clockwise. It came loose right away. It runs great. good luck..

Pull the spark plug out and switch it to the start possition on the levers so as to open up the spark plug to the cylinder. Then fill it with what ever but if it was my machine I would use tranny fluid before I would use PB. I would also try to blow some compressed air into the cylinder to make sure it doesn't still have water in it or you will be wasteing your time because any type of oil floats on water

spark plug hole ive herd use of diesil fuel working good tranny fluid working good and heating the pisotn up then letting it cool multiple times which breaks it lose but i would try the trany fluid .. other wise ur gonna pull the head

Pull the spark plug and pour whatever concoction you can find when you do a search for "stuck" in these forums. You will get lots of opinions third party image

Exactly. In some stuck engines, anything you try will work, and in others (the ones I have), none of those mouse milk formulas will work.
