smigelski: As I understand this, you are trying to determine whether you have a 100 or 130. There are a couple of ways and your right, serial number alone wont do it. First go to engine block part number, Farmall 100 will be 354898 R2 or R3, 130 will be 366204 R1. Then you can go to engine serial numbers, and this is not accurate, however if under 30-35,000 very likely 100, over 35,000 very likely 130. Finally you go to casting date codes on engine, torque tube, transmissiom and hydraulics. These are cast in place 3/8" high digets giving day and month by number and year by letter, looks like these have a round head, blade type screw cast between each of day, month and year. Z is 1954, A is 1955, B is 1956, C is 1957 and D is 1958. using each and everyone of these criteria along with tractor serial number you will be able to determine whether it's 100 or 130. The reason I say go to all 4, is over the years someone may have replaced a casting, however if you reconsile this using all of block part number, engine serial number, casting date codes and tractor serial number, the answer will become clear.
