had a fellow bring me a belly pump/resivoir.pump housing was cracked, installed different pump obtained from wrecker.after swapping the pump, hyds work for a bit then lose pressure, until control lever on side of tractor is reset. Is this lever connected to releif valve? If so how is it set/tested?

I think that the relief was part of the pump when I removed it. I beleive that is is what they call a stage 1 hyd system, pump in reservior

Yes i know that and the relief is inside the housing and ya have to pull the pump apart to get to it.

the pressure relief valve is a spring and ball deal built into the valve body . It can be serviced after taking the pump apart . All the control does is move the selector valve that tell the fluid where to go as OK i need to lift now or hold the cylinder where you want it or when ya shove forward it dumps the oil back into the sump. They did have a update package to raise the pressure on the old units up to i thing like 950 maybe 1000 psi. You would have to check with your Case IH dealer on that.
