On my govenor control lever, I have two that I could use. Both are in decent shape. One is square tooth with a little "disk" on the top of the housing, and the other is a saw tooth which is smooth on the top.

Which is correct for a '44 H?

The sawtooth one is correct, but I've tried a few sawtooth ones on my 43 H and I think they are junk, most of them don't stay in place very well even with very little wear. I purchased a square tooth throttle for my H and they are much nicer in my opinion. Another nice thing about the square tooth throttle lever is if the key wears out, Stenier sells the key for about $4.00.

CNKS said: Saw tooth was original on a 44. I think the square tooth appeared, at least as a replacement, in the late 40's early 50's. I much prefer the square tooth, regardless of year.

I was out playing with them, seeing what would be the best to use as far as condition is concerned, and the square tooth won out. So, the correct police will have to cry in their beer about that one.

I believe the square tooth throttle with the "disk" is a friction throttle. They were sold as aftermarket or M&W parts. The correct one would be the saw tooth, but I prefer the friction throttles. -David Goode Coggon, IA

Dave (just info) they were stock. Nearly identical to the saw tooth, but with notches for the square "dog" that holds the position. JimN

Hey Mike, I know a guy that could use that 54 SH grill if you still have it, or can get a hold of it. Let me know. Thanks, Andy

I believe the the square tooth was the updated version provided by IH so yes, it could be considered "correct" but not original.
