I want to buy a 5-18 plow with category 3 hitch. What are the best brands? Please discuss the pros and cons of different plows.

JD makes the worst plow. The JD plows I've seen working generally just set the furrow slice on edge, leaving a very rough looking field. The best plowing job I've seen had been done by an Oliver plow---5 16's. We've got a 720 5 18's & it does a very nice job. You have to set any plow to get it to plow level. Looking at plows on farm sales, you can find many plows that aren't set right. Some have the coulters set 3 to4 inches outdide the land side---tail wheel angling into the furrow way too much--many problems people never look at.

735 is a slick rig for sure. A 720 is a good plow. A 735 is an awesome plow. We have a 5 bottom. Only use it once every couple years, but wouldn't ever sell it. The vary width makes anyone look like a pro when it comes to closing a land

I would agree with ihrl90.Its hard to beat 588 White or a IH 720. My preference would be a White very hard to plug one in heavy residue.

This ofcourse will bring a wide variety of opinions. Im guessing since you posted this on the Farmall forum, you like IH. If you can swing it, a 735 would be slick. I had a six bottom 735 SAR and it was great, very hard to plug. A 720 is a great plow too, alot of clearance between the beam and top of the bottoms. From what I have seen the Case (White) plows are good too. They seem to pull harder though. What ever color you choose, try to find the model with the most clearance for trash. You can never have to much clearance. My opinion ofcourse.
