My 57 farmall 300 will start and run, but only with the choke wide open. I cleaned the oil bath and it had water in the oil. (I don't have a new filter) It wouldn't start before that, but it will run now as stated above. Do I have a carb problem or is it possibly starving for air? also any advice on carb adjustment ie Float, idle and governor would be helpful. I have also cleaned the fuel bowl and drained the carb bowl hoping I might have water in the fuel system but those didn't help.

Here are some ballpark initial settings for you to use:
Float Level: 1 + 5/16". (carb inverted, needle closed against seat, no bowl gasket)
Float Drop: 1 + 15/16" (upright, no bowl gasket)
Idle jet: Open one turn
Main jet: Open four turns
Be very gentle bending that double float.
Good luck.

Do you have an intake manifold air leak? With the engine running, spray some carb or brake cleaner around where the intake bolts to the cylinder head and where the carb bolts to the manifold. If the engine RPM's change, you likely have located the source of the trouble.

Make sure you have good flow to carb through feed line, if thats ok shut the fuel off, drain carb bowl, then remove fuel bowl be careful not to tear gasket, remove fuel feed stem( the brass stem with nut on bottom of carb) back main feed screw out blow air through passage ways to check for debris once all clean reassemble , hopefully this hellps

You say with the choke wide open, thats the way they should run. I'll take a guess here and figure you mean you have to have it choked all the way for it to run and if so it means you have a fuel flow problem. I would start by pulling the carb drain plug out and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas out of it for 5 plus minutes. Catch the gas so you can save it and also look at it to see if you have water in it. If you don't have a good flow there work back till you find where you loose the flow. If it flows good at the line but not the carb then you probably need to rebuild the carb

When you say choke wide open ,do you mean you are chocking the carb. If so then it is likely you have a plugged main jet passage in the carb.By closing choke plate you are causing engine to pull more from the fuel side of carb and less air flow. When you open choke engine dies because it is too lean.

Yes I mean the choke on the carb pulled completely out it runs idles fine when I push it in it dies.So it sounds like it starving for fuel huh. Thanks
