424 Hydraulics - Closed or Open Center

I have a log splitter set up for the open center system on my '71 JD 820. I'd like to be able to also use the splitter on my '67 IH 424. The 424 has a single hose loader (trip bucket) that operates off of the lever below the seat. I haven't figured out the remotes on the back of the tractor yet. I figured that since the 424 has the separate oil reservoir for the hydraulics, by using the same fluid in both tractors I'd avoid contamination. My question, is the 424 an open center system like the JD, how should I plumb it for the 424, and does anyone foresee a problem sharing the splitter? Thanks in advance.

424 is open center hydraulics. I have a 2444 an industrial version of virtually the same tractor.
Do you just have one lever under the seat ? Or two ?
The remote valves are actually on the left side of the seat. Do both hoses from the remote valve go to the rear remote hookup ? If so the rear remote is plumbed as a two way remote. If one of the lines on the remote hookup goes back to the top rear of the lift box under the seat is is plumbed as a one way, lift only.

It's got one lever. It has remotes facing front under the left footrest, the loader hose is connected to one of them. I haven't tried connecting anything to the rear remotes (just got the tractor recently) and will check how they are connected, although I'm pretty certain one line does not dump into the reservoir. The tractor is at our place 4 hours north, I'll look at it this weekend if we make it up there. BTW that's how I set up the JD for the splitter, since it only has one outlet we added a return fitting on top of the rockshaft housing. I've got a 3444 backhoe I'm very happy with which is why I bought the 424. Luckily the 424 has factory PS and works great for snow removal.

Under the rootrest ? I will check my manuals tonight I think they cover the 424. I do know the rear liftbox internal workings is the same on the 424 as on the 444. I helped a friend rebuild one from 424 parts.

Yes, there's a pair under the left footrest facing forward. They come out of the same two lines that go to the rear pair. So, to answer your question, the lines from both rear couplers go to the valve. If I connect the splitter to one outlet will the other work as a return line to the system, or would I be better off putting a connector in place of the fill plug on the top right corner of the housing and connecting the return from the splitter there? Also, am I correct that closing the valve on the right side of the hydraulics disables the 3 point hitch and will control a one-way remote cylinder? If so, where would you connect that line and would that be a way to operate the splitter without having to disconnect the loader line everytime?
