I was able to use this puller to remove the valves from the Touch Control block.

It is a 4" long, 1/4" carriage bolt with the head ground down to 1/2" dia. A 3/4"-1" long piece of 1/4" or 3/8" gas line makes the expanding bushings (1/4" for the inner valves, 3/8" for the outer). A 5/16" washer and 1/4" nut squashes the bushing. The double nuts on top gives something to hold while squashing the bushing.

Tighten it until the valve will turn and then wind it down a few turns more. Once it is tight enough, turn the puller while pulling up.

Excellent! Wish I would have had that before making my modified needlenose pliers for the 140 project

Greg, thanks for posting your valve tool. I'm probably going to pull my SA touch control unit apart tomorrow and I will definitely make one of this jewels!

Thank you for posting this info. Wish I'd had it summer before last when I was doing my SA.

I figured that your 'inspiration' came from your typical creative personality. Are you trying to tell me I was wrong? :P
That purple tube (did we ever determine exactly what that stuff was?) should work well..it was stiff, but not too stiff.

And please, for the love of god Sam, tell me you didn't buy a 140!

PS...your thread about the TouchControl never showed up on the modern side. It bewilders me.

You're in luck - or I'm in luck, I didn't buy a 140. Just doing some work to one that Jos drug home.

As to that post, If you can't figure it out I certainly don't stand a chance.

Funny...I saw this post and, without looking at the posters name, thought to myself "I wonder what Sam came up with". Only when I read your post did I realize that Sam hadn't posted this, though it looks alarming like something he would have come up with. I should upload some pictures of the pulley puller he and I fabricated one afternoon.

Incidentally, I didn't get to the touch control this afternoon because I split a 140 to free up the stuck clutch. Dragged it in, split it, freed up the clutch, and reassembled in 3 1/2 hours. Not bad going if I say so myself. tractorsam

So where do you think I learned how to fabricate these things from?

If you look back to what I posted yesterday the rig pictured above is a somewhat improved version of what I was thinking of trying. I have the carriage bolts and nuts and I'm hoping some of that purple rubber line will be a good fit.

I'm glad to hear that that will work as I've got some of mine out but the ones on the LHS are stuck.

Many thanks, tractorsam

Excellent, and great timing.

I hope tractorsam sees this. He was talking last night about the exact same idea for his. Glad to know it works. Couple other guys (greg from ca) are also in this process. I'm hoping to start pulling the guts out of mine tomorrow.

Thanks

I'm sure this is what tractorsam had in mind...

It is surprising that so many guys are working on the same thing at the same time.
