H Shift lever pin

As I mentioned I'm doing my H. Pulled the shift lever. It's worn. Off to machinist tomorrow. Question is the pin I drove out. It has more dovetails, bends, and contours than a Colorado ski slope. Is it supposed to be a straight 7/16 pin? I'm thinking cut a grade 8 bolt to fit? Gordo

Dad's H has a bolt in it currently... this summer I'm going to fix it up right, if the holes are worn I'll take it to the machine shop and have a bushing put in... hopefully the top cover isn't worn too badly.

Yes,it is supposed to be 7/16 but if the hole is worn I drill them out to 1/2

Welding up the shifter where it engages the shifter forks comes up regularly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the wear at the foot of the shift leaver should be side-to-side and not top-to-bottom. Correct? If so, does anyone know what the original width was? I would also think that the wear at the bottom corners would be more pronounced than the top. So would it be OK to measure the width at the top and just square the foot up?

I would use a softer pin so it would wear instead of the shifter block.

That pin is supposed to be smooth and round. Yes, a bolt will work just fine.

I'm just thinking about all the posts and troubles with H's jumping out of gear. With the wear on the lever, and pin I have here, has to be about 3/16 non alignment in the shift rails. Word to the wise, check this first,easy fix,if you are having tranny problems.
