Hello i picked up my 1948 farmall H today after i did not see her for 1.5 years. It ran great when i put it away.It was in a tent building for shelter, not that good as i can tell now.I put in WD40 in the cylinders last nite and just let it soaked.I rocked the wheels a little this morning but no hope yet. Any Ideas?? thanks john

Soak the cylinders in PB Blaster, let it soak for a few days and see if it turns over.

I soaked my W-9 down with PB Blaster for a week before we hauled it home. Put a pry bar on the ring gear and it came right loose, had it running within a couple hours.

As long as you know the valves are loose and there isn't excessive rust in the cylinders you should be good to go.

Make sure the starter is not locked. Loosen the two bolts on the starter, those old Farmalls are noted for that.

YOu can prettymuch rock it as hard as you can by hand. I would only avoid this if the engine was near TDC when it stopped. In that position the rod angle is so shallow that things could get bent or distorted. If you cannot see the pistons in any cylinder, rock it as hard as you can (by hand). JimN

WD40 will do nothing for that problem but its also not made to do that either. ATF is the best cheapest way to go. So far out of 20 plus locked up engine I have only had 3 that did not free up after sitting for a few days.

Put some ATF in the cylinder, I have had real good luck with that over about anything else. Keep in mind, it took a long time to get locked/stuck, it is going to take time to loosen it.

Narrowfarm I have done a few stuck engines one was really bad I have had the best luck with PB Blaster if you can't get it with the head on the engine take the head off and cut a 4x4 to fit the bore of the engine and tap on each piston with the 4x4 and a 2lb hammer
Good luck Stewart

Narrowfarm, an old auto wrecker I knew used to say that a stuck engine was a betetr engine than a loose one. He reconned that a stuck engine was likely a tight engine and not worn completely out. There are good suggestion especially the hotwater. Never try to turn an engine completely over that is stuck..work it back and forth so the pietons work back and forth rather than forcing them all the way through a cycle in a rusted or corroded cylinder. High gear wheel rock, plugs out, valve cover off, patience and it will turn over. Stroy: I bought an old snowmobile at a farm sale one evening, peopel were looking at it and commenting that the engine was siezed. The biding didn't last long and I bought it knowing it was siezed. I loaded it on my pick up and brought it home, took the plug out, poured oil into the cylinder and sat on the side of the box and took my hands and tryed the flywheel each way, pulling as hard as I could by hand, finally I thought it moved a tad, in about 10 minutes I was wheeling it over by hand, worked it back and forth..very important..Hey..Good luck you will win!

Try this;Drain water and refill with boiling water, this expands sleeves, then try cranking.

Two Shruggestions. One is to loosen the starter on the engine and wiggle it to see if the starter is jambed (they do that routinely) The fix is a clutch type drive from CaseIH Different and better.
The other is to make sure you are in High gear when "rocking" it. ATF in the cylinders seems to be better than WD40. But will work with it. Putting the crank snout into play with a 100 pound wt on a 2'
lever turning CW from the front will put force on it.
Bumping the starter (When not jambed) will also assist in freeing the engine. Don't give up, time is needed to get this done. JimN
