Hello, my engine is free and turning good. This is the first time i took the engine apart since i bought her 8 years ago.One of the pistons has a little chip missing off the top of the piston. It looks like from a screw driver mark??? I just thought can i replace just one piston and i would like to do all the rings. The cylinders look good. The pistons has the nubers 374813 R1 B.Any idea what they mean?? And my head has numbers 8043-DC. Tractor is 1948 H Farmall. thanks john

Go to www.caseih.com and go through the two search for parts screens to get the ih parts catalog. Type in farmall A and look at the engine. They don't list a piston by itself as a part. Must buy it with as a kit with a sleeve and rings from the dealer.

You should have the sleeves measured for wear. They may need to be replaced if the wear limits are exceeded. Have the crankshaft measured too.
If the cam bearings are worn they should be replaced since they determine good oil pressure.
