I had this posted on the 50% thread but moved it here .....

One tractor I bought came with a brand new 15.5 - 38 Galaxy Super Trac

Other side had a junker on....no tread..just holds air...
I got a quote last fall of $500+ for a new Galaxy....
( I checked online and they dont list a 15.5-38 any more for the same tire) but imagine a similiar one would cost the same
But a quote of $350 per tire on a different brand...
So I thought of buying two of the cheaper ones...then taking the Galaxy down to the auction to recover a few dollars...
I plan on plowing/discing with this tractor..... so I want decent traction ...

Also will a 16.9 fit on that rim??
What do you guys think??
Dave

I wasnt going to lopside it with a 16.9 ...maybe I confused my post..

I was thinking about 16.9 's as a pair if I buy two new ones....just not sure of the fit..

I am leaning on two new ones and sell the Galaxy...

Thanks for the replies

As far as I know, the 15.5x38 is really the same width as a 16.9x38 and the same height as a 13.6x38.

Worst case, the rim might be an inch narrower than the recommended rim for a 16.9x38. You can squeeze the tire on there and it'll work fine.

If Galaxy no longer has 15.5x38, then you will not want another size Galaxy, because the tractor will be lopsided. In that case your only option will be another 15.5x38 (and mismatched tires) or buying a pair.
