i've got a 12v battery with no charging system on my H right now. How long will the charge last on it before I need to recharge it?

If you're using a mag your battery will last a long time. I have motorcycle batteries on my tiller and lawnmowers and they last a long time before needing a charge. Hal

I did that, and my wrench slipped when I was putting it back on. It arched and scortched a chuck out of the metal. Scared the begeebees out of me too!

Had an M with no charging system a few years back, usually started it about twice a day - always started up quick - and it needed a charge about once a week.

Doesn't take much to run the ignition, starting and lights take the most power. I would pull a cable when not in use, just to be safe.

There is no VR on the tractor at all. It's been removed, and the tractor has been straight wired just to get it running.

A good, fully charged battery can run your tractor continuously 20 - 30 hours or longer. The more frequently you use the starter the shorter the run time will be however.

So long as the cutout or voltage regulator cutout relay is not stuck, you can safely leave the battery connected when the tractor is shutdown.

Will it drain if I leave it hooked up?

Mike, you can get a small charger at Sears or Wal mart for about $30 I charge my A about once every ten starts. You can also get a motorcycle charger that charge 2 Amps and that would help keep it up .aThe longer you leave it short of full charge the quicker it will fail (probably about 2 years)Henry
