MY 1939 M HAS A PIN THAT GOES THROUGH THE STEERING COLUMN AND PUSHES THE STARTER LOCATED BEHIND THE COLUMN. YOU PUSH THE PIN WITH YOUR FOOT.

I have SM that has the foot starter on it...not saying it came from the factory with it...but it was on the tractor when I got it.

The foot starter was removed on H"s starting after ser number 70,000 or so.The H I had was ser# 67025,it had a foot starter.

M"s kept the foot starter until the Super series,I believe.
