Gasoline Additives

Just wondering... is there a gasoline additive that should be put in the fuel for a B or H? Not that I'm having any problems, but I have been putting a lead additive in, however, now I'm not sure I should. Was lead even put in gasoline back in the 30's and 40's? Maybe these engines were made to run on gasoline without lead. What do you all think?

Don't know anything about MMO, but we have a lot of problems with Sta-bil in gas. with certain kinds of gas, it does more harm than good, it leaves little jelly pellets in carb. Espeially in higher ethanol content gas. I use Sea-Foam in everything I own, I sell and use a lot of it at my shop, and it works good. It stabilizes fuel, keeps upper engine clean, keeps fuel system clean, actually does what the can says.

glennster, have you had any trouble running those two together? I've tried that in the past, using both MMO and Stabil. When I do every engine that uses the fuel develops a miss. Mostly it's a miss at idle but it's there no matter what.

Running clean and untreated fuel through the engines always solves the problem and I have no more miss.
Stabil by itself also seems to work Ok.
I wonder if I'm just not getting them mixed well enough. I mix them in 5 gallons cans of fuel.

mark, i run marvel oil and sta-bil in my fuel. when i get my fuel delivered, i toss a jug of stabil and a jug of mmo in the fuel barrel, then have it filled. is it necessary, i dunno, does it help ? seems to.

You do not need any additives, your money is best spent somewhere else. Several thousand words in the archives about this.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil in all my tractors. I mix it in with the gas. I figure what can it hurt? This new fuel they have is junk anymore. Am I waisting my money? Who's to say,but it makes me feel a little better when I do it. I figure its adding a lttle more lube to the engine. The stuff has been known to free up stuck valves and such so it has to do something.

Jason, would you believe you can use ATF instead of the MMO and it will do the same thing and save you a lot of $$. 1 qt. of ATF will cost you about 1/4 of what the MMO does and it does that same thing just doesn't smell as good LOL

Mark: Lead was only ever required for high performance, high rpm engines, your Farmalls are neither. You've just been wasting your money.

I have a Farmall 130, probably close to 10,000 hours, 3/4 of that without lead. I also had a Farmall 300, probably has 25,000 hours on it by now, I know it's on it's 6th set of pistons and sleeves. It too probably had 3/4 of it's hours without lead. Since lead protected the valves, I can tell you this, bottom end of the engine will long be worn out before the head gives problems. Since you'll problbly do the head at every rebuild, not much point in spending money on lead. Besides once after no lead, my 300 had a piston and sleeve kit installed and the head required no rebuild. In that case the head out lasted two piston and sleeve kits.

SAVE YOUR MONEY, you got better things to use it for.

No additives needed. I've been running My Hs on E-10 for at least 9 years now. No problems.
